Clean Eating For Fat Loss Tip #1

by Susan on November 10, 2009

Since diet is THE #1 most important variable for weight loss I thought I would start a string of tips designed specifically for clean eating.

Here is today’s tip:

Don’t Drink Your Calories

If fat loss is your goal and you are a soda drinker, stop. Don’t let one more ounce pass your lips.

Here’s why. One 8 oz serving of Pepsi has 100 calories and 28 grams of sugar. And that’s only 8 oz! One can is 12 oz and a bottle you would grab at the local mini mart or gas station is 4x that amount! People drink 32 oz in one sitting!

Let’s compare that to a few of America’s favorite treats:

a. Snickers: 226 calories and 28 grams of sugar
b. M&Ms: 240 calories and 31 grams of sugar
c. Haagen-Dazs chocolate ice cream: 270 calories and 21 grams of sugar

So, by drinking one, 32 oz bottle of Pepsi you drank the equivalent # of calories as almost 2 snickers bars, and the equivalent amount of sugar in 2 packs of M&Ms, 1 Snickers, and 1 serving of ice cream combined!

And don’t for one second think you can simply switch to diet soda.

Diet soda is actually WORSE than regular soda!

Not only is the carbonation horrible for your bone health but there is a 41% increase in risk of being overweight for every bottle you drink. It is loaded with high fructose corn syrup and the artificial sweeteners in diet drinks are known to increase the release of fat storing hormones in your body. They cause you to crave even more sugar and have been linked to cancer and kidney failure.

If you care about your health this is a no-brainer! No more soda!

And while we’re at it no alcohol, fancy coffee drinks, energy drinks, or flavored water either.

Water, however, makes up 60 % of our body and is essential for our bodies to function.

All our systems’ processes run with water. Being just slightly dehydrated can cause our body to not function properly or optimally and to slow and lose energy.

How much water should you drink? A good rule of thumb is to aim for 2-3 liters of water every day. You can also have a cup of green or white tea, which is known for its antioxidant benefits.

Leave a comment below and let me know how much soda you drink each day and how you are going to stop.
