A Type of Trans Fat That Burns Belly Fat?
As a Certified Nutrition Specialist, I usually shock people with this fact… it’s true that there is a type of healthy natural trans fat that actually helps you to burn off abdominal fat.
Sounds far fetched, but it’s true.
First of all, as I’m sure you’ve heard a million times by now, artificial trans fats in our food supplied from hydrogenated oils are one of the most unhealthy foods (if you can actually call it suitable to eat) you can put in your body. Artificial trans fats cause everything from obesity to various cancers to heart disease, and more. They are pure evil, and everyone knows by now that this is a fact.
Stay away from artificial trans fats from hydrogenated oils at all costs!
However, what most people don’t know is that there is a specific type of natural trans fat (yes, it occurs naturally) that can actually stimulate fat loss and lean muscle building.
This specific type of natural trans fat actually occurs in the meat and milk from ruminant animals such as cattle, goats, sheep, venison, bison, kangaroo, etc. It is called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and is not only known to help prevent cancer, but is also a potent fat burner.
CLA is highest when these animals are grass-fed instead of grain-fed.
Now before you think that you can just buy the CLA supplements that you’ll see most supplement stores selling…
WARNING: Do not buy CLA supplements! The only form of healthy CLA is from grass-fed ruminant animals such as grass-fed beef, bison, lamb, etc. The CLA that’s found in CLA pills is an artificially created form that is a different isomer than the natural CLA isomer found in grass-fed meat or dairy. The CLA isomer in the pills is NOT a healthy form, and will not benefit you.
Only the CLA that you get naturally from grass-fed ruminant meats actually has health benefits and can help increase fat burning (particularly from stomach fat) and building lean muscle, which helps increase your metabolism.
While most trans fats (the artificial ones) will just make you unhealthy and fat, now you know that there actually is such a thing as a healthy natural trans fat that makes you burn fat instead!

This is Susan here again. Grass fed beef is much more healthy than the factory farmed meat you likely buy in the grocery store. In addition to containing a healthy trans fat, grass fed meat does not contain synthetic growth hormone, antibiotics, or ethanol. It is only filled with pure goodness and you should buy grass fed meats whenever possible.
You will be saving yourself from disease and obesity. Doing your home workouts won’t hurt either!

Huh. Who would have thought! So can you buy grass fed beef at the grocery store or do you have to go to specialty health/organic food stores or…?
Hey Tristan, sometimes you can get the grass fed stuff at your local market but rarely….look for something that says 100% organic certified by USDA and that’s your best bet there. You can also get it at local organic stores and Whole Foods/Trader Joe type stores. I go to a local farm who feeds their animals grass and get stuff directly from them. That’s probably the best option. Thanks for the comment!

Hi Susan, I love your blog!
Personally I have had problems eating beef and pork since I was 13. I use to eat steak when I was A youngster, however one day my body decided to start rejecting it in the form of hives. UGH! I hate hives. But it’s true I can’t touch the stuff. Great article I plan on being a frequent visitor
Hey Larry! Thanks for the kind words! I love hearing that! Hives can’t be fun at all! Have you ever tried eating meat from a local farm that was free range and grass fed only? You may be reacting to all the chemicals, hormones, and antibiotics that are in factory farmed meat now a days. I would bet all the money I had that that is the issue……

Well this is good news for, I guess, because almost all the beef raised in New Zealand is grass fed. However, we do have plenty of people with no shortage of belly fat so it certainly is not the entire answer. And although most of our beef is grass fed it is not organic so this may be an additional part of the problem.
Fighting that bulge round the stomach is a complex issue. I’m sure that eating good healthy food has to be an important part of the whole equation.
