Gymboss GB2010 Black Softcoat Interval Timer Worth YOUR Weight in Gold

Last night I was doing an interval training workout at my local park with my Gymboss GB2010 Black Softcoat Interval Timer and debating on the topic I was going to write about for you today.

Then it hit me – I’d share with you the workout I was personally doing and how I use the Gymboss GB2010 Black Softcoat interval timer during my workouts to help me improve my fitness and lose weight.

If you have been following me and this blog for more than 30 seconds then you know my claim to fame is designing awesome and super effective home workouts that consists of strength training and interval training – very little long, slow cardio (you know, what you have been convinced you need to do for weight loss). These types of workouts result in much greater weight loss in a shorter period of time as well as greatly ramp up your fitness level.

This interval training style of working out is great for doing at home, at the park, out in your back yard, or standing in line at the grocery store (ok, that last one might be a stretch). When you perform interval training, you are essentially alternating short bursts of higher intensity activity with a subsequent rest period.

For example, let’s say you want to lose a few pounds so you decide to try interval training while riding your bike at the park. You decide on an interval split of 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off. That means you will pedal very hard for 30 seconds and then pedal easy for the next 30 seconds. You would probably keep time by using a stopwatch on your wrist or on your phone, just eyeball your watch, or maybe even wing it because you don’t have a stopwatch or ride your bike carrying your phone.

This scenario makes for a cumbersome exercise session. Who the hell wants to keep checking their stopwatch when they concentrating on giving their maximal effort? More often then not, the times are inaccurate, and you don’t get the best results you could be getting if the process was a little less obtrusive.

This was my problem for quite a while. In fact, not only did I find this a huge issue in my own workouts, but I found it to be a pain while I was leading local fitness bootcamps.

Until one day I found the Gymboss GB2010 Black Softcoat Interval Timer and all of our workouts became much more pleasant.

Gymboss GB2010 Black Softcoat Interval Timer Review

  • Allows you to set your exercise interval.
  • Allows you to set your recover interval.
  • Allows you to set the number of exercise/recovery intervals you wish to complete during your workout.
  • Beeps at you when each interval is over and you should begin doing the next interval.
  • Clips onto your clothes or your bike, depending upon your exercise mode.
  • Also has a basic stopwatch function.
  • Super easy to use and set up takes only seconds.
  • Has a vibrate mode in case you don’t want to draw attention to yourself in a crowded place, such as the gym. But hey, how needs the gym?
  • Perfect for any kind of intervals including sprints, box jumps, burpees, jump ropes, battling ropes, bodyweight exercises, tabatas, and all the other awesome workout routines I show you at WorkoutsForHome.com.
  • Can take a slickin’ – I beat the thing up pretty good.
  • Small and lightweight, you won’t even know you have it on you.
  • I have had my Gymboss for 2 years now and have never had an issue with the battery.

I have truly loved using my Gymboss these last few years. It makes not only my own personal workouts a breeze but greatly simplifies my personal training clients’ and bootcampers’ workouts as well.

The bottom line is that the Gymboss GB2010 Black Softcoat Interval Timer has proved to be worth both MY and YOUR weight in gold.

The one thing I am disappointed in is that it does not have a backlight so if for some reason you are using it in the dark and need to actually see the numbers it can be a little challenging. But most of the time you are relying on the beeps or the vibrates to indicate your next move.

But for a measly $19.95 how can you go wrong? The advantage the Gymboss gives you is worth 10x that amount.

April 9, 2012 Contest – Win a Free Gymboss Interval Timer

Today is my friend, Hannah’s 9th birthday. Birthdays are always fun, but why is this important?

Because in March of 2011, Hannah had a bone marrow transplant, marrow donated by her 4 year old sister, Fiona, because she had been diagnosed with PH+ leukemia. This particular type of leukemia was rare and Hannah had a very difficult fight on her hands. But I am grateful to be able to share that as of today, her 9th birthday, she is leukemia free and going back to school next week for the first time since November of 2010.

In honor of Hannah’s strength and determination to be well I am offering a FREE Gymboss to a random reader.

All you have to do is leave me a comment below and tell me why you want to get a Gymboss and  what affect you think it will have on your workouts, weight loss, fitness, life, etc.

Nice and easy!

I will be announcing winners on April 12. So please leave a comment below now.

Hi again, Renu, congrats on the new baby! I hear it takes quite a bit of time to start feeling like yourself and to start working out again after a c-section. Take your time, but once you feel ready just poke around the site a little bit and you will find plenty of home workouts and nutrition tips with a splash of advanced strategies. Good luck!

Oh, this the perfect thing I’ve been looking for! I doing a race in a couple of weeks and will be interval walking/running and didn’t know how I was going to do the timing!

8 susan April 13, 2012 at 7:40 am

Hey Laurie, good luck on your race! The run/walk interval is a great way to tackle any of those long distance events. In fact, I have a friend who did one that way (after doing many as long, slow distance) and she actually finished quicker then she normally did! Definitely give the Gymboss a try. Thanks for the comment!

9 Troy April 12, 2012 at 10:08 am

I got very excited about this incredible device! So much freedom compared to the phone I’m using and no electromagnetic radio waves to take away from all the hard work you put in! But I’m out! Always thought being an Aussie was a bonus! But not this time! Oh well that’s life! Cheers!!!

10 susan April 12, 2012 at 10:14 am

Hi Troy, an Aussie! Ah! Well, I am really sorry I can’t ship there however, you win the coolest person award just from living down under! I know it isn’t much but perhaps I will find a way to make it up to you…..but thank you so much for taking the time to comment on the Gymboss anyway. You rock!

11 Jessica April 12, 2012 at 8:08 am

Hi Susan –

I only recently happened-upon your blog, but I’m diggin’ all the good info:)

I’ve been doing interval training – burpees, sprints, KB swings, etc. – for years but have not had an interval timer! I pretty much ‘eyeball’ it…do my interval for a guessed amount of time, then stop to check my watch to see if I’ve gone the specified amount of time. I guess it really comes down to $$$ – I was a poor grad student for a couple of years, now I’m a poor teacher – interval timers are not at the top of my necessities list. hahaha. If I have that interval timer, I’ll really be able to PUSH MYSELF to the max until I hear that ‘beep’.

Thank you for your consideration!
Jessica

Hi Jessica! Great to hear from you. I am so happy that you are already doing many of my favorite exercises. I know all to well how annoying it is to have to check your watch when you’re busting out burpees! The Gymboss would definitely be a great tool for you. I also happen to have a very large circle of teacher friends so I know how that goes as well. The good news is the Gymboss is the least expensive fitness gadget I recommend so far at only $20 so the price is reasonable. But I realize every dollar counts these days. Keep up the great work!

13 Jessica April 19, 2012 at 5:11 pm

Hi Susan:

Soooo, I did my first Gymboss workout on Tuesday – 3 rounds of….30 sec. intervals of lateral hops, jump squats, jumping jacks, push-ups, followed by 21 14 kg KB swings and 12 body rows. It definitely kept me moving…thank you! Off to do hill sprints…lovin’ it:)

14 susan April 20, 2012 at 8:55 pm

Jessica, you are an amazing example for anyone who wants to meet a fitness or weight loss goal. You took your new Gymboss interval timer and got to work – you took action. There’s no sitting around feeling sorry for yourself or simply not taking action on what you know you should be doing. I am very proud of you, and if the other members of the Workouts For Home community commit themselves half as much as you do then they’ll rock it!

Awesome job! And nice workout! I couldn’t have come up with a better one myself!

15 Jessica April 22, 2012 at 4:08 pm

Thank you…interval training is a bit addicting, actually. Fast, furious…finished!

16 Zach April 9, 2012 at 9:03 pm

17 susan April 10, 2012 at 7:28 am

Wow Zach! Congrats on losing all that weight! You must feel amazing and so proud! I am proud of you, that’s for sure! Ju jitsu sounds fun, I’ve always wanted to try something like that but just never made time for it. I’ll have to do something about that soon!

18 Zach April 10, 2012 at 10:40 pm

Thanks. O yea it’s a heck of a workout when someone is fully resisting you, let’s not forget all the adrenaline you have from someone choking you haha.

19 Susan April 12, 2012 at 10:23 am

Running away is a good workout too!

20 Zach April 16, 2012 at 2:50 pm

Haha I suspose but where’s the fun in that. Turn the bully into the fish and yoursel into the shark and the tides will turn lol.

21 Zach April 9, 2012 at 9:03 pm

Because you always give me great avice and helped me loose 70 odd pounds and the interval timer would help my ju jitsu.

22 Holli Crear April 9, 2012 at 3:38 pm

You are always awesome! Love reading your blogs and messages that constantly remind me to be conscious of what I am eating and doing for my health and wellness. So thanks! And anything I can do to honor Hannah!

23 susan April 9, 2012 at 4:23 pm

Thanks, Holli, for such a great compliment. I wanted to inspire others to work hard and maintain or improve their health by using a special 9 year old as an example. If she can be tough and work towards a big goal we all should be able to, right?
