How To Do A Burpee

by Susan · 17 comments

One of my favorite exercises to do during my home workouts (or outside) is the basic burpee.

How could I be so passionate about something that sounds so silly?

Because for as simple and basic as it can be, it provides such a powerful effect when it comes to fitness and fat loss.

The burpee is a form of bodyweight cardio, one that you can easily use for a great high intensity interval training workout.

As you know, high intensity interval training is the best method of cardio for blasting away body fat.

There are dozens of effective high intensity interval training options out there but the burpee is quick, portable (you can take it anywhere ;-) ), and super effective.

Check out this video where I give a brief demo of the burpee – you might remember these from grade school as being “squat thrusts” during your Physical Education state fitness tests:

Now this was a demo of just a basic burpee. If you would like to make this more challenging to burn even more fat you can do any of these burpee progressions:

  • Burpee with push up
  • Burpee with jump
  • Burpe with push up and jump
  • Burpee with push up, jump, and chin up

So, you will never run out of burpee options and you will always be challenged!

Here are 2 great home workouts you can do using the basic burpee or any one of the burpee progressions to have fat melting off your body:

  • Set a timer for 10 minutes and see how many burpees you can do in that amount of time. Rest as little as possible. Next time you do this workout try to increase the number you do.
  • See how long it takes you to do 100 burpees. Rest as little as possible. Next time you do this workout try to lower the amount of time it takes.

So, get outside or clear a space in your living room and start incorporating burpees into your home workouts and fat loss workouts! I guarantee you will move closer towards fat loss success if you do!
