The Diet Solution Program – Day 17: How Does Protein Help You Lose Fat?

Hey there, hi there, ho there, I’m back with my review of day 17 on The Diet Solution Program from Isabel Del Los Rios.

So, today was a really interesting eating day.

So far on the program I have been pretty good with the cravings – no real need for any sweet stuff.

But today was the first day that I didn’t feel hungry during the day once I ate breakfast.

I had two snacks and a salad for dinner and that was it.

What was so special about my breakfast today?

  • 3 eggs from free range eggs from a local farm
  • 1 small banana
  • 3 strawberries

I felt a little extra hungry at breakfast (I didn’t eat until 10:30 am) so I “pigged out” on 3 eggs instead of my normal two.

And I swear to you that I wasn’t hungry for the rest of the day.

I kept snacking though, making sure to include a little protein with each snack, just so I didn’t get so hungry that I tore my kitchen apart.

My first snack was an organic apple with cashew butter.

My next snack was greek yogurt from a local farm.

Protein obviously is what “does a body good” because it has kept my blood sugar levels in such tight control that my cravings are gone.

Just to recap what Isabel said, protein helps you burn fat because it stimulates the secretion of glucagon (the fat burning hormone released when there are low levels of insulin in the blood).

Protein also helps you burn fat by stabilizing your insulin levels.

So, if you eat steak with a potato, the steak is going to help control any insulin spikes that may have occurred as a result of you eating the carb heavy potato.

Cool, right?

So, the trick to protein and making it work to help you burn fat is to make sure you eat a little protein at every meal and snack.

It doesn’t have to be a ton, just 4-8 oz (depending on your size) will be adequate.

What foods should you eat to get your protein fix?

  • Eggs from free range chickens
  • Free range chicken
  • Grass fed beef
  • Wild caught fish
  • Nuts, seeds, & nut butters
  • Greek yogurt
