Check out the extremely powerful video below from the Campbell Coalition.
No, this particular Campbell doesn’t have anything to do with that – just an admirer of Dr. Colin Campbell’s work.
You should check out his book, The China Study, especially the chapter on how exactly you should eat for health.
In case you didn’t feel like watching the entire short video, I posted the contents of it below it.
The strongest human can lift 3 times his own body weight.
The average gorilla can lift 10 times his weight!
Gorillas eat plants. NOT other animals.
Plants alone contain all the protein needed by humans.
The most extensive nutrition study ever undertaken, the China Study, suggests we get no more than 15% of our daily calories from fat.
Easy for those on a plant based diet.
Average fat consumption in the United States? 35-40%
A plant based diet can provide 70 or more grams of fiber per day, well above minimum recommended levels.
Average daily fiber consumption in the US? 15 grams!
Most Americans consider cholesterol measurements under 200 ml/dl cause for celebration.
In The China Study, rural Chinese averaged 127 ml/dl.
Americans eat an animal based diet. The rural Chinese eat mostly plants and suffer far lower rates of chronic disease.
We fear our genes, chemicals in the environment, and other factors we can’t control.
Perhaps what we ought to fear most is the food at the end of our fork.
A large body of international research agrees: excessive consumption of animal food increases risk for a wide range of cancers.
Phystochemicals are powerful nutrients that fight cancer and other diseases. They occur naturally in plants, giving them their rainbow of colors. Only trace amounts, if any, are found in meat.
Many cases of heart disease and type II diabetes can be reversed by a whole food, plant based diet.
The dietary effect is so powerful, someone taking insulin should not switch to a plant based diet without physician supervision.
The body heals so fast it may no longer need insulin and can go into hypoglycemic shock from too much.
Want cow’s milk?
A growing number of research suggests that osteoporosis is NOT caused by drinking too little milk but can be cause by drinking too much.
Countries with the highest level of dairy consumption (USA, New Zealand, Sweden) also have the highest hip fracture rates.
Some varieties of beans and leafy greens have more calcium per gram then milk.
The scientific evidence is now overwhelming:the most healthful diet is a whole foods, plant-based diet.
The US just finished one of the most contentious political debates in the modern era.
Yet, the debate over health care reform missed the most important point of all.
If every American consumed a whole foods, plant-based diet the US would eliminate as much as 80% of all medical costs.
Why haven’t we heard this message before?
Most health care providers are motivated to improve public health, but are handicapped by insufficient training.
Only 30 % of medical schools in the US require a course in nutrition.
Worst of all, insurance companies, drug companies, certain food companies, and corporate agribusiness PROFIT from your poor health.
These special interest groups don’t want change and they have influenced research, confused the public, and infiltrated governments.
Change will not come from the top. Change MUST come from the bottom-up, from people caring about people.
“Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival for life on earth as much as much as the evolution to a vegetarian based diet.” ~ Albert Einstein
Me again. I don’t know about you but I thought that video was pretty powerful, and I learned a few facts I was unaware of too.
Now if you’re freaked because you fear cutting out animal products completely, I totally understand. But perhaps you just work to cut down on them and start to think of animal products more as a treat then a commodity you eat at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
