Xtreme Fat Loss Diet Day 12

by Susan · 17 comments

Why do these fasting days come up so frequently on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet?

Cheat days certainly don’t come around as quickly! (Wink, wink)

Anyway, day 12 on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet was relatively painless, which I was really hoping for.

But since this is my third time through the fasting day I would like to consider myself an old pro at it now.

In fact, if you missed my update from my first fasting day on day 2, I will share with you again my 6 tips for getting through the fasting day.

  1. Eat well on your cheat day – if you eat enough calories on the day before the fast (cheat day) you will have no problems with lack of energy on your fast day.
  2. Drink a ton of liquids – Sometimes when our stomach growls we think it is asking for food when really it could be stopped with water, tea, or a 0 calories flavored water.
  3. Stay very busy – Distraction is gold on a fast day.
  4. Be anti-social – Too many temptations from people who have different goals than you.
  5. Stay away from TV – You don’t realize how many food commercials there are until you watch tv having not eaten in 24 hours.
  6. Enlist the support of your friends and family – Scott really was the key to me not caving in and eating after about 8 pm on my fast day. Have someone in your circle you can count on for support.

For me, every time I felt any hunger pangs I just had something to drink and it really helped.

But the truth is, I never wavered one bit today. I never asked myself why I was doing this or thought about quitting just so I could have a meal.

Admittedly, I thought both of those things on my first 2 fast days. I’m not sure what was different today. I just know now that there are worse things then not eating for a day, like not meeting your goals, failing yourself, being sick, not living the life you deserve, not being able to take care of your family.

I could go on.

The truth is, like many other things, fasting day is 100% mind over matter.

Physiologically, you don’t need the food since you had a cheat day prior so any perceived need or desire for food is in your head and you must make the mental adjustment to get through the day.

And you can do it!

How do I know that? Because I know you want all those things I just mentioned – you deserve them!

Regarding workouts, I was able to get through all 3 of them with flying colors!

I attribute that to taking a break from the weights on day 10. I was more sore than I have even been before and my knee was bothering me (which never happens) so I made the decision to rest for one day.

The result was an outstanding workout for the next 2 days! Overtraining really isn’t necessary and can do more damage than good in the long run.

For today’s workouts, I did the lactic acid workout right at home (love home workouts!) and then did a sprinting HIIT session on my rebounder mid day and took a 30 minute bike ride in the evening.

I am stronger both mentally and physically since I took a break from the workouts on day 10. I don’t regret that one bit!

Even though I stayed strong throughout fasting day, I am really looking forward to my shake in the morning!

Can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Your Friend and Coach,

Susan Campbell, MS, CSCS

Hey Susan,
Had my Fast day yesterday and was doing really well throughout the day but it was one of the harder ones for me this time because I had such a busy schedule yesterday, being Wednesday right in the middle of the week. I noticed as the day went on that I was getting a little grumpy. Since I teach students English here in Spain, I was getting frustrated with two students because they were just not getting it and were not trying to speak in English. They were being lazy which made me more arrggghh. Anywas, I got all the workouts in but at 9 o’clock before I was going to go back to the gym for my last 30 minutes @80% I ate a small peach and a thin slice of turkey. I just felt really weak and I knew if I didn’t eat anything I wouldn’t have been able to get through the workout. It was eat a little something and do workout or don’t eat and go to bed.

The thing I don’t like about cheat days is that I get soo cold. I may be a little anemic because I don’t eat red meat but I swear I was the only one walking around the city yesterday in their winter coat. When I went to my private class in the afternoon, the mom asked me why I was soo covered up. I told her I was cold and she thought maybe I was getting sick. It’s like that every fast day. I just hope I am eating enough on my cheat days. I went to John Romaniello’s blog and he has some videos up of him when he went to Ben and Jerry’s on his cheat day. He got the vermonster which is actually quite disgusting. I feel good on my cheat days and I don’t want to overdue but I definitely don’t eat as much as they say to. I hope that isn;t affecting my results. John answered one girls questions about how many calories should we be trying to get in on the Fast Day and he said 3 times your maintenance. He looks at the cheat day as sort of like going out to the bar and getting drunk. When you wake up the next morning you don’t want alcohol for a week so it’s sort of like that for food. He swears by the science behind it but I want how bad that is for the body. How much are we increasing our cholesterol in one day to help us lose weight.

I bought the Diet Solution a while back from Isabel de Los Rios and she said that her cheat day means pancakes with syrup in the morning, maybe a sushi lunch and then out to dinner in the evening and of course dessert. Between Isabel and John these are huge differences.

During the day I also wanted something to chew. Do you know if sugar free gum is okay on the diet?

Thanks,
Kristin

Thanks for the update Kristin, I would say gum is technically ok on the diet but I think having something in your mouth signals your body to get your digestive enzymes flowing and it may result in you being a little worse off than if you didn’t chew it. Might stimulate appetite.

You may want to try to eat a little more on cheat day to get through fast day. There is probably a good balance between what you are doing and what John suggests we eat.

Hang in there!
