It’s shake day on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet!!!!
Did you ever think anyone could be excited about something like that?
I thought when I fell asleep last night on the eve of the fasting day, day 2 on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet, that I would wake up at 4 am and have to get up and make my first shake of the day because I would be starving.
The funny thing was that I woke up about 6:30 am…..but neever actually felt the need to get up and drink until about 7:30 am. I just laid there since it was a weekend and thought about how great that first smoothie was going to be.
And I was so right!
That first smoothie on day 3 of the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet was like gold.
I used Prograde Nutrition’s Protein Powder, banana, strawberries, and unsweetened almond milk for my first shake. I also threw in some icecubes which made it thicker and a little more milkshake like.
And for the next 3 hours that one shake left me feeling satisfied.
About 2 hours later I started my workout for the day, a strength workout.
As with all workouts within the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet are challenging to me, the strength workout challenged me in a slightly different way…..to lift as much a weight that was much heavier than I was accustomed to.
The workout was TOUGH!
I do a ton of bodyweight exercises, kettlebell swings, HIIT, and some weights but nothing I have been doing prepared me for today’s strength workout.
Admittedly every once in a while I would tell myself I was going to skip the last set of a particular circuit because I was so tired. But I didn’t – I kept telling myself that if I was going to honestly report on my experience with the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet then I was going to have to follow it as written.
I thought since volume wasn’t the focus in this workout as was with the prior two workouts, that the strenght workout would not take as long as the others (about 45 minutes). But no luck.
Strength workout #1 took me 50+ minutes. Oh well, I got to watch that really awesome movie with Mandy Moore, Robin Williams, and the dude from The Office.
I timed the workout so that when I was finished it would be time for another smoothie. The protein and carbs that I added to it would be perfect for a post workout “meal” to replenish exhausted muscles.
I made this shake just about the same way as the first one but added a drop of raw honey to it.
Raw honey has outstanding health and healing properties to it and is also known to reduce allergy symptoms – all while being only 30 on the glycemic index (as compared to 75 from processed honey you find in the store).
After I drank the shake I lounged around with Scott on the couch while we both did a little work and had our favorite TV show, Bones, on in the background.
It wasn’t long before I started to feel like I needed to shut my eyes. I was really wiped!
Another 2 hours later I went out for my 30 minutes of cardio.
I decided to throw on my Vibram FiveFingers which I have been breaking my legs into for about 1 month now, and head out for a run.
I used to be a “runner” a few years back but I had a ton of over use injuries after training for a 15K. It has only been since I started wearing my Vibram FiveFingers that I have been able to correct my muscle imbalances in my feet and lower legs and get back out there.
So that’s what I did. I hit my stop watch and I just ran. Now, I am really just a beginner again when it comes to running, including my breathing. I could only run for about 3 minutes at a time and then have to take a short walk break.
However, I can assure you my heart rate was elevated and I was huffing and puffing and working hard most of the time. It wasn’t pretty but I was proud of myself for getting back out there.
And as I am sure you can guess, I timed the run so I would be back in time for my next scheduled smoothie (all about 3 hours apart).
Here’s the kicker though. Remember how that first smoothie tasted like gold to me? Well, by the time I got the third one down I didn’t care if I never saw another smoothie in my life again! Aw, it so sucked – I really wanted real food.
And this is where I made a choice to skip the last two smoothies of the day and eat a real meal instead.
We made steak and salad for dinner, food that cover the macro nutrients prescribed in the final 2 shakes for that day. I was happy with the choice that I made at the time but realized that I made a mistake.
By foregoing the 4th shake and waiting for dinner time, I really started to get hungry – not good.
And shortly after dinner was over I actually got hungry again!
I suspect if I just stuck to the shake plan my appetite would have been controlled.
OK, I screwed that one up, I admit it. But I don’t think I did any real harm.
And if you want to talk screw ups, then wait until you hear what I did on Day 4……..DAMN!
