Xtreme Fat Loss Diet Day 8

by Susan · 22 comments

Another shake day on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet.

I wasn’t really looking forward to today – it might be a good way to break a fast but it certainly isn’t the most fun.

Now don’t get me wrong, I know there are a ton of things you can do in a smoothie, but on my first shake day I found I couldn’t get past the third one before needing “real” food.

So, today my mission was to drink the 5 shakes as prescribed in the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet without wavering.

And that’s exactly what I did! Pretty happy about that.

I drank my last shake around 8:30 pm. Figured since it was fairly late in the evening I would be able to drink that and be good to go for the day.

BTW, if you’re wondering what kind of protein powder I use in my shakes and smoothies the best I’ve found is at Prograde Nutrition.

But for some reason, Scott and I decided to watch this week’s episode of our favorite crime fighting team, Bones and we didn’t start it until well after 10 pm.

Well, I got to about the middle of the episode and I really needed something to eat. For the first time in days, I was actually hungry – physically hungry, it wasn’t just in my head.

So, I made eggs. Figured it would satisfy me just enough so I could fall asleep with doing minimal damage. So, I’m not going to beat myself up over it.

Today’s workout on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet was another strength workout.

I started doing the workout today with the same level of enthusiasm as I have for the last 7 days. However, today felt very different.

I managed to get through the entire first circuit, or about half, of the workout – took me about 20 minutes.

Right from the beginning I was sore. A lot of times once you get moving the soreness goes away and you can do the entire workout without any discomfort.

But today felt different. My glutes hurt, my quads hurt, my back hurt. My knee even started to hurt.

So, I made the executive decision that after 7 straight days with 40+ minutes of weight training and some sort of combo of cardio and HIIT, that I needed to stop and let my body have some down time.

That’s what I was hearing from my muscles – they didn’t want me to do anymore work today. I was pretty disappointed when I made the decision – I really wanted to follow the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet as written to be able to provide my best opinion and review in the end.

But in the end, it was for the best.

As for energy levels, I had plenty all throughout the day – no issues at all there.

And so tomorrow is another day – a moderate carb day. I will reassess how the ol’ muscles feel to determine their fate then.

If you are doing the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet let me know how your results have been so far in the comments section below.

Hi Susan,
I came across your blog after googling “taking a day off in Joel Marion’s Xtreme Fat Loss Program.” Today is Day 10 for me and I feel like my body needs a break from lifting today. I feel bad about it but I know my body too well, and if I don’t take a day off I feel like I’d be doing it more harm than good. I love the workouts and waking up in the morning I feel a little leaner each day. My only set-back was my “cheat day” at the end of the first cycle. I had lost 5 pounds in 5 days so I rewarded myself on cheat day with all types of food I would never have eaten even if I wasn’t on a diet! Anyhow, for tomorrow’s cheat day I think I’ll shoot for a healthier guilty pleasure like sushi or some type of pasta.

Hey Martin, thanks for the message. I am glad you are having good results so far on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet. Yes, I absolutely needed a day off after 9 straight strength training days. It is a tough program and I had to take a day off I think twice during the 25 days. Good for you for listening your body. No good will come out of you hurting yourself, and that’s what can happen when you over-train. It does make you feel a little guilty, I like to follow programs 100% but in the end I don’t think it mattered all that much. Rewarding yourself on cheat day was supposed to be what it was all about but after going through it I think that a treat or 2 during the day is perfectly fine but the rest of your carbs should come from better sources. Thanks for finding me, and please keep me updated as to your progress. Find me on FB and Twitter via my homepage.

Thanks, Susan

How have you been doing with the weight? How much are you lifting? Thanks!

4 susan May 18, 2010 at 8:42 am

Depending on the exercise, I range from 8 – 25 pounds.

I am doing the TT Clash of the Titans workouts that Craig designed to go along with XFLP and Craig strongly suggests taking one day off in every 5 day cycle. In the program, it does say that if you do miss a workout, the one to least affect your results in the strength day on day 3, is that right?

Also, have you tried muching on “free veggies”? I didn’t last week very much because my stomach seemed to be constantly sore, but I have cucumbers, grape tomatoes, and baby carrots in my fridge for when I get hungry. I’m surprised actually, that I haven’t been hungry much at all over the last 8-9 days or so because I’m usually always hungry!

Hey Angela!
Thanks for writing!

I am familiar with Craig’s program. Love TT and his stuff but for the sake of an accurate review of the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet I chose to do the program as written to the best of my abilities and report on things like this as honestly as possible. Also, you are probably eating more protein on days 3-5 then you ever have before which is keeping you satisfied. I am not eating nearly as many veggies as I usually do (weakness) because of that. Also, your insulin levels are stabilized so that will result in almost no cravings as well.

Good times!

Keep up the good work and keep in touch!

Susan

Went to the gym yesteday on my Shake day, day 8 and am noticing that I can now lift more. How are your weight workouts at home? I always have a hard time with this because I feel like the workouts are more for men but I am going through them exactly like they say and trying to keep up with them. It’s hard on the strenth day trying to find out what weight I should start with. Since I am in Spain, I started with the pre-made barbell that has 15 Kg on the side (about 30lbs) for my barbell front squat and also the deadlifts and realized that I could lift more so I moved up to 17.5 kg on the squat and 20 on the deadlift. I am definitely sore today in my hamstrings. I feel like I could lift more weight but the problem I have are my hands. My hands hurt holding the bar, even with gloves, after about the 8th rep. It says you should do as many as possible but I ended up doing about 10 reps and then repeating that for the total number I should get in.
How much are you lifting at home? Do you notice your muscles getting bigger? I haven’t noticed my muscles getting bigger which is good. I want a more toned and lean look! Off to the gym to do my Dynamic workout for day 9 mod carb day!

Hi Susan! I am glad to have found your blog – one thing I think Joel is missing BIGTIME in his program is having a community forum that we can all get together and encourage one another. It’s lonely going through this alone because it is SO extreme (and all my workout buddies think I’m insane because they already see me as fit) and thus, when you are already lean and don’t have much weight to lose and don’t get results super fast….it can be really disheartening.

So I’ve been scouring the web and so far have only found two blogs of people going through it and believe me, I devour each and every word! =) The other blog is here if you’re interested: http://fatlossquickie.com/blog/ This guy has a fabulous forum he’s put together but he won’t allow anyone to join unless they buy the XFLD through his link. Waaah! I already bought mine before I had even heard of him. =(

I am on day 11 today!! Hard to believe, wow, it’s been an up & down ride. Today is my 3rd cheat day and oooooh boy am I ever reveling in that fact! I just finished my density w#1 orkout 10 minutes ago; it was enjoyable because the first time I did this one was on day 1, and it’s fun to see how much I’ve gained in strength since then!

I am a mom of 7 in the last 10 years, so have a bit of tummy flab left – 5’2″ and started at 122 lbs, 23.2& body fat (according to my body fat scale which I know is probably off, but at least it will show progress). This morning was the start of Cycle 3, day 1 – and I have lost 2lbs and am down to 22.7% body fat. Woohoo, huh?

Not! I have had to struggle with my “lame” results but all I can think of, is what you wrote a while back – that the fat and muscle are shifting because I do look better in the mirror. I’m starting to see more definition in my abs, but mostly on the sides (the “gills” I like to call them, rofl!) and a line appearing down the middle on the upper abs. No actual “abs” showing yet.

I have an awesome cheat day planned, which I started out pre-workout with rice & chicken marsala sauce, blueberry pie, and chocolate covered pretzels followed by a few bites of banana. LOL! I literally woke up in the night several times cuz I couldn’t wait for cheat day to come; I went shopping for it last night. =)

Have a wonderful mod carb day!

Hey Sherah,

Sounds like you are doing awesome on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet! I know that it is frustrating to not see the scale move since we spend so much time obsessed with those numbers, but definitely focus on other measurements such as using a tape measure to track arm, chest, waist navel, hips, thigh and calf measurements. The body fat reading from your scale is probably not accurate. But I would guess it is reliable, meaning that if you use it first thing in the morning every 5 days (after elimination, prior to eating or drinking) it is most likely giving you a reading that you can compare to the previous one. So you may not actually be 22% fat but if you were 23% fat the week before you know you are on track.

I do know Scott from FatLossQuickie.com. Too bad he doesn’t have an open forum.

And yes, I dream of cheat days myself and am sad to see them go. However, yesterday I felt a little sick after eating food I really never eat. Maybe need to tone down cheat days and make them more like yours!

Great job on the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet so far and feel free to write how you’re doing or questions in the comments of on my facebook page.

Thanks,
Susan
